While we appreciate the idea behind placing your used needles in a water bottle for safety, these still do not belong in recycling.![]()

We have been seeing A LOT of needles come through on our recycling line this week—what you see here is only a fraction of what’s been coming in over the last few weeks. This is dangerous and puts our workers at serious risk.![]()
Used or unused needles in recycling carts put our workers and the entire recycling process at risk. When our team sorts recyclables by hand, a single needle can cause serious injury and possible exposure to dangerous diseases.![]()

Here’s the right way to dispose of needles in St. Charles County:![]()
1️⃣ Used needles – Place them in a FDA-cleared sharps disposal container (or a heavy-duty plastic household container with a tight lid, such as a laundry detergent bottle). When full, seal the container securely and take it to a designated sharps disposal site.![]()
2️⃣ Unused needles – Many local pharmacies, clinics, and hospitals will accept them for safe disposal. Call ahead to confirm.![]()
