While we appreciate the idea behind placing your used needles in a water bottle for safety, these still do not belong in recycling.![]()
We have been seeing A LOT of needles come through on our recycling line this week—what you see here is only a fraction of what’s been coming in over the last few weeks. This is dangerous and puts our workers at serious risk.
Used or unused needles in recycling carts put our workers and the entire recycling process at risk. When our team sorts recyclables by hand, a single needle can cause serious injury and possible exposure to dangerous diseases.![]()
Here’s the right way to dispose of needles in St. Charles County:
1️⃣ Used needles – Place them in a FDA-cleared sharps disposal container (or a heavy-duty plastic household container with a tight lid, such as a laundry detergent bottle). When full, seal the container securely and take it to a designated sharps disposal site.
2️⃣ Unused needles – Many local pharmacies, clinics, and hospitals will accept them for safe disposal. Call ahead to confirm.
